South Evanston Yellow Line Station
From 1925 until 1948 the CTA Yellow Line had several stops in Evanston at Dodge, Asbury, and Ridge. Unfortunately, these stations were subsequently boarded up and eventually dismantled. Reopening a CTA station in one or more of these locations would reconnect South Evanston to rail transit, and enhance access to Ascension Saint Francis Hospital, Levy Senior Center, the Howard St business district, and several local bus routes.
As recently as 2012, the City of Evanston conducted initial feasibility studies and community engagement finding significant economic benefits and resident support for a new stop. The Village of Skokie also constructed a new station on the Yellow Line at Oakton. The time is right for re-launching the planning process for stations in Evanston, with state legislation recently passed in late 2025 providing significant funding for expanding transit service in Northern Illinois, including infill stations on existing lines. South Evanston is a prime candidate for new stations, bringing access to this rail service back to nearby residents in the 8th and 9th Wards for the first time in nearly 80 years.
