Sheridan Road/ South Lakefront Access

A southern extension of Evanston’s Lakefront Trail along Sheridan Road from Main Street to Calvary Cemetery (pictured at right) is a critical missing link in our park and active transportation network.

The existing path ends at Lee street providing no safe route for all ages and abilities to walk or cycle south to Clark Square Park, Garden Park, South Blvd Beach, and into Rogers Park.

Complementary pedestrian improvements in the surrounding neighborhood including raised crosswalks or speed tables will slow fast-moving traffic and improve safe access.

The City of Evanston is currently in Phase 1 planning for the section of improvements between South Blvd and Eastlake Terrace at the border with Chicago (pictured below).

The additional section from South Blvd north to Clark Square Park was included in the 2014 Bike Plan but has yet to begin the planning process.
