Sheridan Road/ South Lakefront Access
A southern extension of Evanston’s Lakefront Trail along Sheridan Road from Main Street to Calvary Cemetery is a critical missing link in our park and active transportation network.
The existing path ends at Lee street providing no safe route for all ages and abilities to walk or cycle south to Clark Square Park, Garden Park, South Blvd Beach, and into Rogers Park.
Complementary pedestrian improvements in the surrounding neighborhood including raised crosswalks or speed tables will slow fast-moving traffic and improve safe access to the lakefront as well as other local destinations such as Lincoln School.
The City of Evanston is currently in Phase 1 planning for the section of improvements between South Blvd and Eastlake Terrace at the border with Chicago (pictured below).
This work would coincide with reconstruction of the lake wall/ revetment. Sources of grant funding are currently being identified.
The additional section of improvement proposed by ETA from South Blvd north to Clark Square Park was included in the 2014 Bike Plan but has yet to begin the planning process.
