Channel Trail Extension

Evanston Transit Alliance, in partnership with Wilmette Park District, the Village of Wilmette, and the City of Evanston, secured a $40,000 Invest in Cook grant to plan the completion of the Channel Trail. This project would extend the trail from its current dead-end terminus at Green Bay Road and McCormick Boulevard northward approximately 1.5 miles to Gillson Park in Wilmette.

Once complete, the Channel Trail would create a nearly uninterrupted multi-use trail stretching from Belmont Avenue in Chicago all the way to Wilmette Harbor. In addition to significantly enhancing regional connectivity, important employment and tourist destinations would also be directly linked, including Evanston Hospital and Bahá'í House of Worship. A connection would also be provided to Poplar Avenue, which provides bicycle route access to the Green Bay Trail in Wilmette, making this a true regional connection.
