North Shore Channel Trail Extension

With a $40,000 Invest in Cook grant, the first phase of planning on the North Shore Channel Trail extension is now complete. This project would see the paved walking and cycling path continue north from its current dead-end terminus at Green Bay Road to Gilson Park in Wilmette- creating a nearly uninterrupted multi-use trail from Belmont Ave in Chicago to the lakefront.

An underpass below the Union Pacific Railroad tracks, an on-street connection to the Green Bay trail, and ramps to Isabella St, Central St, and Lincoln St, make this project both a vital local and regional active transportation link. Recreational riders and those traveling for errands, trips to the Central Street Business District, attending events at the new Ryan Field, or commuters to Evanston Hospital, would all utilize this new connection.
