South Lakefront Trail Extension
A southern extension of Evanston's Lakefront Trail along Sheridan Road from Main Street to Calvary Cemetery would fill a critical missing link in the city's park and active transportation network. The existing multi-use path currently ends at Lee Street, leaving no safe route for pedestrians and cyclists of all ages and abilities to access Clark Square Park, Garden Park, South Boulevard Beach, and the Eastlake Terrace Bike Route in Rogers Park.
Providing a protected, off-street path along this corridor would complete a vital connection in the regional trail system, while enhancing access to Evanston’s greatest natural asset: our lakefront beaches and parks. Additional improvements along the Sheridan Road corridor could include pedestrian crossing enhancements to facilitate safer access to the new walking and cycling route, and traffic calming measures to reduce speeding.
